The Pocket of Poems

The anguish from my heart burns like the hot boiling vapor The painful tears gushing down my eyes weakens my beautiful eyeballs The thoughts and flashes back of yesterday is a bundle of nightmares My love flew away without a trace At age thirteen, Lolo Mrs. Julianna Nwakamma began a long journey to understand the fundamentals of life. As she struggled with the obstacles surrounding life on the street and poverty, she bravely held onto her belief in God and the strength within her family unit to survive. In her debut collection of poetry, Mrs. Nwakamma speaks from a broken heart, disabled culture, and a fear of the unknown, both in the past and future, within poignant verse that touches on diverse topics and themes that include the sorrows of a long journey, death, unrealistic dreams, a forbidden child, the pain surrounding motherhood, lost love, and much more. The Pocket of Poems is a collection of free verse that reflects on a Nigerian-American woman's experiences with the hope of helping others heal from emotional wounds and find a reason to courageously face tomorrow.
