The First Waco Horror

In 1916, 17-year-old Jesse Washington, a retarded black boy, was publicly tortured, lynched, and burned on the town square of Waco, Texas. Drawing on research from the national files of the NAACP, local newspapers and archives, and other sources, this book presents the reconstruction of the crime and how it influenced the antilynching campaign.
