Real Dreams

Ruben Lundgren (1983) is een Nederlandse fotograaf en curator van Chinese fotografie. Sinds 2007 woont hij in Beijing, waar hij afstudeerde aan de prestigieuze Central Academy of Fine Arts. Hij brak door als deel van het fotografenduo WassinkLundgren met de publicatie Empty Bottles (2007). Hij werkte samen met Martin Parr acht jaar aan een geschiedenis van het Chinese fotoboek dat resulteerde in The Chinese Photobook (2015) gepubliceerd door Aperture in New York. Daarnaast cureerde hij voor het Jimei x Arles Photo Festival de tentoonstelling Anything That Walks (2018), met een smakelijke collectie van gebruiksfotografie; en voor BredaPhoto de veelgeprezen tentoonstelling China Imagined (2020) met een overzicht van hedendaagse Chinese fotografie. He made his breakthrough as part of the photography duo WassinkLundgren with the publication Empty Bottles (2007). In collaboration with Martin Parr, he worked for eight years on a history of the Chinese photobook that resulted in The Chinese Photobook (2015) published by Aperture, New York. In addition, he curated the exhibition Anything That Walks (2018) for the Jimei x Arles Photo Festival, with a stylish collection of user photography; and for BredaPhoto, the acclaimed exhibition China Imagined (2020), with an overview of contemporary Chinese photography.
