Oliver Twist

Oliver Twist, in full Oliver Twist; or, The Parish Boys Progress novel by Charles Dickens, printed in a series under the pseudonym "Boz" from 1837 to 1839 in Bentley's Miscellany and in a three-volume book in 1838. The book was the first of the novelist's pragmatic writing. The book Oliver Twist shows a real picture of the shabby lives of criminals, and exhibits the brutal treatment of the many orphans in London in the mid-19th century. In an early example of the social novel, Dickens disdains child labour, domestic violence, the training of children as criminals, and the presence of street children.
