Using an-ecdotal personal narratives and observations, this book proposes a general theory of harmage common to all its manifestations and presents educational strategies for building hope through fostering empathy and inclusion. The generic term ‘harmage’ designates the process of causing physical or psychological harm, damage, or suffering to individuals or groups. Kaposi’s theory of harmage is based on her experiences as a survivor, engineer, and educator, while Ballis’s educational theory and methods draw on question-generating didactics and Socratic dialogue. Pyle’s critical commentary adds ethical depth and intellectual rigour. The Authors Agnes Kaposi MBE FREng is a Hungarian-born British Holocaust survivor, engineer, educator, and author.   Anja Ballis  is a German professor specializing in Holocaust education and didactics of literature at LMU Munich. Ian Pyle is a British computer scientist and specialist in the avoidance of harm caused by computer-based systems, who became interested in harm caused by human behaviour.
