A Brief History of Lies

Why do we lie? The answer seems obvious in general and for each of us in the moment we are lying. But recent research has expanded our understanding of the genetic imprints that allow us to lie and how intelligence is a vital ingredient in our ability to lie. Although we could rightly argue lying is mischievous and dangerous without the agility to lie the human race would never have evolved. This essay is an introduction to the research and researchers who have begun to open up this field of social and psychological science to help us better understand ourselves and why we have made the choices we have made down the generations.
